776 words; about a 4 minute read
Mission:
Pirating Typhon resources
Location: Mabrade's Office
Old:
"Then I will hold you to it Ashe." He said. "No reason to cut your rank, you will just be kept on books as a Stand-by for Control Room duty. You have the training and clearances, I will not need to train someone else so don't give up on 'Never' having the Command Urge again. Just get that wing healed and we will revisit your next Command Evaluation then."
"Or the one after that. I will take it one day at a time, that is the promise of the Prophets after all." She got up, turning to her CO. "Thank you, for understanding. It means more than you know."
New:
"I do not transfer friends from my command." Mabrade replied. "Friends are hard to come by and a devoted love even more so" He continued. "My people have a saying; nothing is more sacred than to have a Loving heart shared." He said. "And you do know standard issue phasers do not lock nor do they discriminate between targets of those who fire them... It was not your fault Ashe."
“I have to keep telling myself that even though it feels that way. That saying is nice.” Ashe finally smiled, weakly. “I am glad to have you as a friend, and I think you will be a fine CO. You will sort these pirates out and send them packing. Feel free to call past the Infirmary, any time. I’ll make sure to have the lollipops stocked and keep the pot on. I know not everyone wants to step through those doors, I like to show them they can without worry.” She brought her hands up to chest height and squeezed at her fingers a moment. “Looks like the Prophets have shown us the path ahead, is it okay if I can get a hug? Just this once?”
"Anytime Ashe." Mabrade extended his arms and gave her the hug he knew she needed. "Friends get a free pass."
“I’ll remember that.” It was a longer hug, she gave him a slight squeeze, wanting him to know how much this meant and how his friendship was treasured. She broke the hug, meeting his eyes and finally feeling better. “It will be a bit funny to be called Doctor again, still I kind of missed it. Thank you for the opportunity. I guess I’ll be busy in the next couple of days. I’ll make sure to tidy up and leave a handover for the new XO and get all settled into the Infirmary. I’ll probably be up to my earring in paperwork.” Ashe actually giggled, slight but just for a moment. “Just no avoiding physicals, can you and the senior staff do me just that one favour? Last thing I want is having to pester Lurch about it, I think he’s cut off those sweets of his.”
"That would explain the testy nature of late, the man has a stoic manner to him of late." Mabrade said. " I will remind senior staff after the crisis if you do not mind. We have bigger things on the plate."
“I know I’ll still see you in staff meetings and such, but don’t be a stranger, okay? Friends can still pop past or have a dinner together after work.” She was a little nervous, not wanting to lose a treasure just because she would be down in the Infirmary and not in Ops anymore.
"I will make it sometime, just not anytime soon, but before you forget my name, I promise to have a tea or something." He agreed. "You should get that teal uniform and Officially check on Mr. Conroy, I am sure you would do him good."
"He was still sedated when I was down there last. He did take quite the hit, but he is built tough by the look of it. I have reports to catch up on anyway." Ashe sighed and gave her CO one last hug.
"May the Prophets shine dawn on your hunt, Mabrade. I am sure you could use all the help you can get." There was a soft smile as she pulled back and readied for the door.
"I hope not to overwork you ... Doctor." Mabrade replied.
“That is not exactly within your control, if the patients are coming in, I will get overworked regardless.” She smiled. “It will take us both a moment to get used to calling me that.” With a smile that finally reached her eyes, Ashe bowed to her friend and CO. “Be well….Captain.”
