Mission:
FORGING AHEAD
Location: USS Orion > Corridor
Timeline: Current
Emily and Tyrone were working in a dark corridor in section M of deck one. The Orion was a large ship and there were only 120 engineers per shift assigned to the beat-up hulk. People were still arriving and it was taking its toll. Emily was scanning one side of the corridor for burned EPS relays while Tyrone scanned the other.
"Do you think the chief is working on the Endeavor or the Alabama?" Emily asked. Her clipped English accent was finally lessening some after being back to duty; her accent always got stronger when she visited her parents.
Mitchell shook his head. "Nah, he's doing that Klingon ship." His tricorder started beeping, picking up some burned relays. "Here we go. Point your light over here, will ya?"
Emily aimed her wristlight in the direction of Tyrone's voice, shining it first on his head then the panel next he was crouched next to. Taking off the panel Tyrone could see why the conduits had failed: something had overloaded and overheated them to the point where they were physically fused together where the passing conduits touched each other. Mitchell let out a low whistle. "Wow...that's something I've never seen before. What the hell kind of weapon could do that?"
Emily thought a moment. "I suppose if they hit the ship with a type of electrical attack weapon it might be possible if they hit right spot."
Tyrone looked up into the light but couldn't see her face. "Electrical attack weapons hitting the right spot? Em, there are 57 different sections without power, all over the ship. Where would they hit?"
Emily's face was behind the light so he couldn't see her mouth tighten. "Have you thought perhaps maybe the different sections are the same sections but on different decks?"
Tyrone's eyebrows rose. He was always astounded at the amount of gall Emily had; they have been friends but he was still her superior. "Em, I gotta say you got guts to talk like that to an officer. Just don't do it to the others, they won't like it at all. The chief would have you in the brig." A soft exhale of breath told him Emily knew he was right and didn't like it. "For the sake of our duty and to avid a fight, this topic is closed." He turned back to the panel and had to wait a few moments for his eyes to readjust.
"It might have traveled through other conduits." Emily was not going to give up it seemed.
Mitchell rolled his eyes. He should've known; he could ban the subject all he liked and she still would argue. He sighed and cut the power flow through the fused conduits and relays. He tuned her out and just muttered things like "uh-huh", "yep", and "right" whenever she paused for breath. Sometimes he wondered how Flynn kept his sanity being married to such an argumentative woman.
"Mitchell!" Emily yelled. "You haven't been listening to a word I've said!" she said indignantly.
Mitchell smiled and started the power flow up again. The lights fluttered and sprang to life. Tyrone looked up and his grin got bigger. Still smiling, he replaced the panel and stood up. He looked at Emily, still smiling. "Yes, Em, I have. You said it was possible that they moved around during the battle. Which is true. You said it is possible that there was more than one enemy ship which is true, but also wrong. There was one enemy ship, it was a bunch of pirates looking for loot or a ship. And to make sure I was listening you said it is also possible that you have a big butt, skinny legs, and practically no chest and it might be a good idea to get implants so you can keep your husband." Tyrone closed his mouth, still grinning but shaking his head. "And you better remember you brought it up. You do have a big butt, but it's nice. Your legs are skinny. And you don't have a chest to speak of."
Emily nose flared. "And the implants?" she demanded.
"Flynn might like it..." Tyrone said, wiggling his eyebrows.
Her mouth was very tight now.
Tyrone sighed. "Come on, Em. You know Flynn loves you the way you are. Sometimes I don't know why. You argue so much I'm surprised you can keep him." Emily rolled her eyes, turning away but Tyrone stopped her. "Em! Emily if you don't stop fighting with people all the time, especially Flynn, you're gonna drive them away. Even I'm getting tired of it."
Emily looked down, then up at her friend. "Okay." Her voice was quiet and her mouth was relaxed. She knew he was right and agreed. She had driven away a lot of people like that.
Tyrone punched her lightly on the shoulder before leading the way to the next darkened corridor. "Although, if all else fails you can still get that boob job."
"Tyrone!"
