Samantha York beamed down to Starbase Typhon and for a meeting with Vice Admiral Burke.

She was a little trepidatious about the meeting, not sure why the Admiral would want to talk to her. Trouble with the ship transfer? She hoped not.

Molly, the Vice Admiral's assistant looked up when she walked into the room. "Commander York?"

Sam nodded.

"Go right in. The Admiral is expecting you."

Sam thanked the woman as she walked past her and headed to the Vice Admiral's office. She rang the door chime and waited.

"Come in," Kathryn said, switching her computer screen to the Starfleet logo. She smiled when she saw Sam. "Commander York, come in and have a seat."

"Thank you," Sam replied. She took a seat across from the desk and waited for Admiral Burke to speak.

"I won't keep you,' Kathryn replied. "I know you're busy getting the new ship ready. Congratulations on your command, by the way. I know your getting command was a little unorthodox, but you're definitely the right person for the job." She smiled at Sam. "Can I get you something to drink?" she asked.
"Carrot tea," Sam answered, pleased at the Admiral's praise.

Kathryn replicated two cups of carrot tea and set one in front of Sam. "I've never tried carrot tea before." She took a sip and smiled. "Unusual. Appropriate, though. I like it." She took another sip and set the cup down. "But that's not why you're here. I'm afraid Lieutenant Commander Sheridan has been reassigned. He's been recalled to earth. He'll be working at Starfleet Academy. Effective immediately. I've already sent the orders. He's to be on the next shuttle to Earth. I know you've had a lot of upheaval with your crew. Because of that I will allow you to pick someone from your crew to take his place." She paused, giving Sam time to assimilate the information.

Sam wasn't sure what to expect when she came here, but this wasn't even close. "Wow. I'm thrilled for John; he'll enjoy the change. I will have to look over my senior staff and see who would be best qualified." There was one person she wanted, though. "You won't let me consider a Marine, will you?"

Kathryn chuckled. "I'm afraid not. Your XO needs to be a Starfleet officer, not a Marine. Although from what I've read, your Marine CO would be a fine candidate. "

Sam grinned. "That's whom I was thinking of. But if not him, I'll have to think about it.'

"Take your time. You won't be getting orders for a few days yet. Until then, there's no rush." Kathryn smiled, knowing that giving the commander a few days was still rushing things.

Sam finished her tea and set the cup down. "Is there anything else you need from me, ma'am?"

"No," Kathryn said. "That was all. You're dismissed, Commander."

Sam nodded and stood. She'd forgotten to salute when she entered the room, so she did no now. "Thank you, ma'am," she said before turning and leaving.
