Covered in a warm blanket the Admiral had sent the message again, as soon as it hit the system it was copied and destroyed. He laughed out loud. He had sent Three Hundred messages and they had all been destroyed within seconds. "All I have to do is name it... perhaps I shall call it tidbit." It was the numeric translation to the alpha value was it's creation date which Vail vaguely remembered.
He sat back and made a few adjustments to Tidbits AI, despite his age Vail could type as fast as he could think. Tidbit was designed to follow certain code traffic and locate indicators of line code used in encryption. It would then copy the message to a data base and as it was doing that eat the code byte by byte. The first test was a huge success. Vail had created a link to certain Fleet immigration databases. He input the search parameters to "Eat Cardassians". Within seconds several hundred Cardassain files were gobbled up.
As they were copied they could be replaced, after modification of course. John knew that Admiral Stone would die to get his hands on Tidbit. He would have to mention it to him during their next card game this week. Another check of the program run sent Tidbit to destroy all possible traces of it's own origin.... Tidbit was now free and under Vail's complete control. Tidbit was written in Aramaic and used Encryption symbols and a heavy dose of cryptic baby talk charted in the 20th century by a Russian doctor looking for a lost language.
He was looking for a worthy target for Tidbit when he was distracted buy a strange vision of particles forming on the air ducts....
