Lieutenant Commander Skylar had many things on his mind, his first day of work, but the first one was a special interest project that had occurred to him, when he realized the sheer expanse of the Starbase.

He had a PADD with the technical details of the proposal, but he intended to discuss the idea with Commander Darkmoon personally.

He approached the Security Chief's door, and pressed the chime. Then, he patiently waited for an invitation to enter.

Krang was standing at the replicator retrieving yet another cup of coffee when the chime sounded. "Come in." he called across the room.

Skylar entered the room. "Peace, and longevity, Commander Darkmoon." He said with a nod. "I am Lieutenant Commander Skylar, the Chief Engineer."

Krang loped across the room and took a seat at his desk. "What can I do you for?" he asked with a smile then took a bite out of his latest carrot.

"I have a proposal for you, based on the expanse of this Starbase, which you may find useful. If you have a moment, I would be happy to explain." Skylar noted.

"I will let you make your proposal, as I have nothing better to do at the moment. Can't make any promises beyond that." Krang answered.

"I was not requesting any promises." Skylar said with a nod. "I was requesting your opinion for an idea."

He nodded to the PADD, as he handed it to Krang. "The technical specifications are all there, though it is written in technical wording. In summary, it is a network of Combat Transporter Pads, which are synchronized in such a fashion to allow Security Officers, and only Security Officers, the ability to select another pad further down the line of 'networked pads' to permit near instantaneous travel throughout the Starbase, and allow rapid troop transport, even during a normal transporter network outage."

"The idea sounds interesting. How would you isolate it from the main transporter network?" Krang asked, his curiosity piqued.

"A simplistic device, which a few people have helped create, which allows the transporter pattern to be 'funneled', in a tight beam. A network of specially designed wires and tubes would connect these devices, to permit intraship transport, even during sustained Transporter blockage." Skylar said with a nod. "It will take a lot of planning, and work, but I believe it will work out to be a most useful use of time and resources."

"I am, by no stretch of the imagination, an engineer. I would have to see the system function before I could make any judgments. Basing my statement only on the idea's merit, I think it sounds good." Krang answered.

"How does one stretch a non-physical, metaphysical subject, such as one's imagination?" Skylar asked. He shook his head. "However, I agree with the statement. I have only read the research papers, and have not actually seen, or heard, of such a network being constructed, or used. We would be, I believe, the first, or second, testers of such a network. I would not even bring the idea to you, were it not for the soundness of the theorem behind it. I will discuss it with the Science officer in great detail, and provide more information, and test theories in the holodeck, should you desire more data."

"Sounds like a good plan. Go right ahead." he said with a nod of his head.

Skylar nodded. "If there is nothing else, I will do so at once."

"You came to see me. I have nothing else to discuss, so I guess you can go." Krang replied. While he was talking, he turned to a small cabinet to the side of his desk. He opened it and pulled another carrot out and popped it in his mouth. "Thanks for the idea Doc. I look forward to seeing it work."
