Mission: On Typhon Station
Location: Various

Ian walked into his assigned area and sat down. He was ready to get back to the base and get his pilots into more training exercises. Thinking about the base reminded him how much he missed Anna. He walked to his desk and sat down. "Computer," he said, turning the display to face him, "open a channel to Commander Anna Johnson on Starbase Typhon."

"There is no Commander Anna Johnson listed on Starbase Typhon." came the monotone reply.

"What the.....?" Ian looked at the display again and said, "Was she transferred?"

"There is one Captain Anna Johnson listed as Starbase Typhon Executive Officer." came the answer.

"Connect me to her," Ian said, getting frustrated.

The computer sent the transmission. Anna was in her office sipping on her coffee and reading over the departmental reports she had picked up so far when her computer indicated an incoming call. Anna set the PADD down and hit the button to receive the call and was surprised to see Ian's face on the screen. "Ian?" Anna said, "I've been wondering if you were surviving out there. I had been worried since I hadn't heard anything from you since the marines left."

"We've been busy," Ian replied, smiling at her. "I've missed you. And I missed something else, apparently. Captain?"

Anna nodded, "I was promoted in December. Fannin made Commodore and is away a lot which leaves me running things here. So he promoted me to Captain." She said.

"Well congratulations," Ian replied. "We'll have to celebrate when I get back. How are you holding up?"

"Okay," Anna said, "I was beginning to think you had forgotten about me though. The situation you are in I can't exactly contact you and have to wait until we get word from the front. Every time they brought in injured I was hoping you weren't among them or at least if you were that it wasn't serious."

"I'm sorry," he said to her. "I haven't had much free time. I didn't mean to worry you."

"Are things looking any better out there?" Anna asked.

"I'd rather not get into the mission right now, but we should be home before too much longer," Ian replied.

"Good, the sooner the better as far as I'm concerned." Anna said.

"How's your sister?" Ian asked, trying to change the subject.

"She's doing fine. She has adjusted to life here, is making some friends, I think she may even have a guy she is interested in. She is starting to seem like she is happier anyway." Anna answered.

"That's good to hear," Ian replied with a smile. He paused and looked at her again. "I'm still not use to you being a captain. Does this mean you'll be leaving Typhon for your own ship?"

"Not if I can help it." Anna said. "As I said Commodore Fannin has to do things off station a lot and leaves me in charge that is the reason for making me Captain. I still answer to him but I do run things a lot of the time."

"Good to hear," Ian said again. "I'd hate to lose you."

Anna raised an eyebrow, "Why do you say that?" She asked.

"If you got your own ship and I'm stationed on Typhon it would be a little difficult to spend time together," he said to her.

"No different than it has been for the last several months." Anna said. "Besides I was beginning to think you didn't want to spend time with me anymore."

"What would give you that idea?" Ian asked.

"No messages, no notes, nothing from you for months and right after I found out about you and Raven." Anna said.

Ian closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, Anna. I don't know what else I can say."

"I know you can't control getting called away on a mission. I have just been wondering if I needed to wait for you or move on. I didn't know what to do." Anna said, "Not entirely your fault but it was something that couldn't be helped."

"I think you need to do what you feel is best for you, Anna," Ian said to her.

"I don't know what is best for me." Anna said. "All my relationships have ended with people leaving and not contacting me. At least you called and should be coming back that is more than I can say for the rest of my relationships. I don't know how I feel about us until I've had the chance to see if us is possible."

"I see," Ian said, looking down at his hands. "I honestly hope you and I have a chance together."

Anna looked at him, "Why did you pick me?" She asked.

"I liked the way we were together the first time we met," Ian said. "The more time we spent together the more time I wanted to spend with you."

"But you were still splitting your time between me and someone else." Anna said. "I want to be with you but I have to be able to trust you."

"That was a mistake and it won't happen again," Ian replied. "I know what I want now."

Anna could have taken that statement one of two ways but decided to take it the way she knew Ian had intended it. "When you get back we'll see." Anna said, "I don't want to be hurt again."

"I understand," Ian replied, not sure what else to say.

"Just be careful out there and come back in one piece okay?" Anna said with a smile.

"I'll do my best," Ian assured her.

"Good," Anna said. "I don't want you to get hurt."

"I'll contact you again soon with another update," he said to her.

"Good I want to know you are okay out there." Anna said. "I hope to see you soon."

"Take care of yourself, Anna," Ian said. "And tell your sister I said hello."

"I will," Anna said and waved at the image on her screen.

Ian smiled at her and reached to end the transmission. He felt both better and worse after talking to her and decided he needed a drink.
