Mission:
[Typhon] Through a Window Darkly
Location: Marine CO's Office
ON
Jane found her way to the Marine CO's office, after making sure he was indeed there, and rang the door chime.
Wilhelm sat at his desk playing with the chunk of Composition B that he disarmed in one of the Armorys. Having run a Chronometric scan on it he found it did indeed come from 1943. Hearing the chime Wilhelm responded, "Come on in... Ohh Jane! I'm surprised to see you down here in Marine Country." Wilhelm said getting up and going over to Jane.
"It was the strangest thing," she said, kissing him on the cheek. "A steam locomotive just drove through the arboretum. It gave me quite a fright." She shook her head, perplexed. "There's absolutely no damage, and no sign of its passage. However there's a faint scent of coal dust in the air. What's going on?"
"I have not a clue. I happened to find this about ready to make my life interesting." Wilhelm said taking the hunk of explosive and giving it a twirl in the air.
"Make your life interesting?" she asked.
"Boom..." Wilhelm said doing an expanding expression with his hands. "Fortunately, it had an old lit fuse I pulled in time. So when did you have train tracks installed?" Wilhelm said with a grin.
"I did nothing. I have no idea why a phantom train came through the arboretum." She looked him in the eye and scolded, "You need to be more careful."
"Ohh dear I'm the heart and soul of caution." Wilhelm said with a small grin. "I knew I still had about six to 3 seconds left on the fuse when I pulled it. Otherwise my back might've been filled with shrapnel if I turned away."
Jane tapped him on the cheek. "You take far too many chances."
"I don't take any more chances then I expect my Marines to take my dear."
"That doesn't mean I have to like it." She smiled softly. "I don't mean to fuss. What do you think is behind all this? I'm not sure I want to have anything else come through the arboretum." She gave him a cheeky smile. "Except perhaps you."
Wilhelm smiled and said, "I'm not entirely sure myself. Just some weird things popping up all over. I bet the station just passed through some sort of anomolie or someone caught a nasty bug that is giving us all very real delusions. Ohh well," Wilhelm said with a sigh. "Just so long as Jeffery Domer or the Zodiac Killer don't come walking around the corner I think things will be fine. So Italian tonight? Ohh wait Julius Ceasar or some other half crazed Italian might come out of the woodwork."
"Anything we do is as likely as anything else," she said. ""So, we can go with Italian. If you're concerned, call yourself Brutus and we should be fine."
"That should work." Wilhelm said with a smile then looked at the pile of PADDs on his desk and gave a disgusted hand sign. "Screw it. I'm exercising one of the privileges of command. Let's go see what that coal smoke did to the arboretum." Wilhelm said offering his arm to Jane.
Jane slipped her arm through his and kissed him on the cheek again. "Thank you."
