Mission:
The Enemy Within: Typhon is Missing!
Location: Tiberius IV
ON
Wilhelm munched on a ration bar as he watched a couple of other teams from the Calypso come into the cave. Rescue at last. he thought. It had been touch and go there for a little bit scrounging through the wreck of the Columbia looking for survivors and anything that could help them. Only enough rations were found for another couple of days and medical supplies were non-existent.
Three Marines came up to him. These were the men he sent to retrieve his two explorers. "Sir we can't find them anywhere. We followed all the markings on the wall they left behind but they just stop in the middle of a corridor and we continued on for another couple hundred meters and couldn't find anything." the Marine in the lead said. Wilhelm nodded, "I wonder where those two went off to especially not leaving behind markings to find their way back."
"Sorry, but I couldn't help overhearing," Kara said, walking up to the men. She saluted the Colonel. "Staff Sergeant Kara Melo, sir. Did you find any signs of large spider-like creatures?"
"What creatures?" Ronnie asked, coming up to join them.
"One of the engineers, and Lieutenant T'Lada, have encountered them. One jumped on the Lieutenant's face. She says she's okay, but Sergeant Major took her to sickbay to be sure."
"We saw nothing on the bridge." Ronnie looked to the Colonel to see if he had any information.
Miral walked up to Wilhelm. "Now that the worst of the injured are gone, we can afford to send people in search of them." She nodded to the Calypso officers. "Some of them have been here before. Perhaps they know where to look?"
"Possibly." Wilhelm said.
Jason picked up the duffel bag of medical supplies and put the strap on his shoulder to free his hands. It was a relief to get the injured crewmembers off this planet. He remained quiet, listening to their conversation of the mission plans, knowing that he is needed in case of emergencies. He wasn't sure where to look, but to follow.
"With the storm outside, we'll have time to explore," Ronnie said. "Who would you like on the team?"
"Sir, I will go." Amarylis said stepping into the group. "Whatever these 'things' are they found a way to take out a Vulcan and one of the best intelligence officers I have had the pleasure to serve with. You boys wanna go play in the caves you best be taking the right firepower." she finished taking her shotgun and cocking it.
Peters pulled out his gun and cocked it, too, following Amarylis' example. "Ooh Rah!"
Wilhelm shrugged and chambered a round in his TR 1911 mockup and grabbed his phaser rifle. "Watkins and Hsung you get to tag along as well." He said, the two Marines nodded. "Anyone with science blues and any of you other Calypso's want to tag along the train is leaving."
"I'll come." Mandy said at the last minute. Despite the fact that the spider creatures made her nervous, it was her duty to help if anyone was injured. She picked up her medkit as well, and walked over to the others.
"I'm going down. There's water down there somewhere," Ronnie said. "You guys are going to need a scientist."
"I will stay here," Miral said. "Someone needs to take charge. If you are leaving, that would be me."
"Well, if you're all through playing 'who's got the biggest gun', we should get going" Cam said, slinging the strap of his compression phaser rifle over his left shoulder, "and although firearms are all well and good, sometimes you just can't beat a combat knife" he continued, looking around at the other volunteers.
Seeing that Mandy is leaving with the marines, Doctor Hart thought it was best to stay behind with a group that will need a medical officer. "I'm staying here."
"Okay, so I'll take Ensign Lane, Master Sergeant Bourne, Sergeant Beckinsale and Colonel Haclkeberg's Marines. Anyone else?'
"Me," Peters said, moving forward.
"Okay, and you," Ronnie replied.
Kara eyed the group for a moment. With Cam in the group she had no doubt they'd be safe. So she would stay with the group exploring the upper caves. "I'll stay with the Ambassador."
Miral raised an eyebrow at that. She didn't need a babysitter, but perhaps the others would feel more comfortable with a Starfleet Marine.
"I'll be going with the group going to the lower tunnels. I need to find my men." Wilhelm said then looked at the entrance to the tunnels. "Shall we?" he said and put on his helmet and flipped down the HUD glasses.
"Okay, let's go."
Wilhelm led the group over to the entrance and after about 40 meter they came to a split one twisting up the other down. "My group will do a standard combat leap-frog advance. Don't bunch up. Those with combat training or experience will lead the rest shall follow within ten meters." Wilhelm said as he moved forward quickly to take the first blocking postion about fifteen meters ahead. It's going to be a long way advancing like this, but it's safer then being ambushed en-masse by whatever happened to be down here. Wilhelm thought.
"I think we've had enough ambushes for one away mission," Ronnie joked as she fell in with the Marines.
