Vice Admiral Vail had waited several hours for Commander Hart to complete the repairs needed to restore Commodore Fannin to the living. He wondered if Basil would be successful. He had been brought several cups of coffee by the med staff and noticed several of the crew waiting for word. The wives and families of a few of the deceased were led out of the area and given the horrible news. He had seen it many times over the years, he caught a glimpse of basil walking out to meet him..

Basil looked exhausted. The surgery had taken six hours. He looked up blearily into the eyes of vice Admiral Vail. "Well, sir, he's stable, he's not bleeding anymore, and it looks like the burns will only leave superficial scarring. Other than that, only time will tell."

"Fine work Basil, You need some rest. If you need anything just let me know. How long will it be til we know about any long term injuries?"

Basil wiped his forehead. "Well, the next 24 to 48 hours will be the most important ones. That's when he's most likely to have issues. But He's got the constitution of a Klingon, so I'm not expecting any long-term damage to his system that can't be fixed. No bones were broken, and the burns should heal only minimal scarring because of the Medicine and the Pseudo-Skin I used. Thank you, sir. You should get some rest, too, if you don't mind my saying so. The crash after a Caffeine Rush is not fun."

"Point well taken Doctor, Did you have any chance to hear about the others..?"

Basil shook his head. He hated this part of his job. "We lost two others, Admiral. The rest are either still in O.R. or already out of danger. My teams are doing everything they can. I have high hopes that we'll be able to save the rest."

"Well again, well done Commander, I'll check in with Edward later"

"Congratulate me when they're all out of danger, sir." Basil smiled tiredly, and headed back in to see where else he could help.
