Mission: FORGING AHEAD
Location: Tyberius X
Timeline: current

ON

Commander T'mpest Michaels, Chief Science Officer on the USS Endeavor and Lieutenant Commander Samantha York, Chief Science Officer on the USS Orion, had been in communication since they learned both ships would be at Starbase Typhon at the same time.

Both women had been interested in the planets of the Tyberius system. Especially Tyberius X. It was... intriguing. It had once been habitable but was now mostly ice.

Since exploring was a lot more fun than sitting around talking, they decided to take a little side trip to the planet while their ships were restocking.

During the planning, the trip expanded to include the Marines so they could do some environmental training and Intel, who always enjoyed a good mystery.

Now, they were all together on a shuttle making their way to the planet.

T'mpest sat in the front next to Zach, who was acting as pilot.

Zach checked the instruments and found all to be within normal specs. He glanced over at T'mpest who sat in the co-pilots seat.
"So what can you tell me about this frozen ice ball we're traveling to?"

Lieutenant Commander Basil Hart sat comfortably in the middle seat, absorbed in a PADD containing a monograph on Xenopolycythemia written by Admiral Leonard McCoy, the first known survivor of the disease in its later stages. The physician was always trying to expand his medical knowledge. Having this little jaunt away from the Republic would be good for broadening his horizons.

Samantha sat in the back next to Damon, looking over her notes on the planet.

Damon was likewise found with his eyes attached to PADD, though this one was detailing the equipment they had brought along for the brief side trip. TR's, Arctic BDU's, crampons...everything on board the shuttle he planned to commit to memory.

With tired eyes, he put away the inventory list, satisfied that he had the numbers sorted. He tipped his head back and rested it on the bulkhead behind him and closed his eyes. He remained this way several seconds before he opened one eye and looked over to Sam who was busy familiarizing herself in planetary details.

“Other than it being a frozen rock,†He started, opting for a conversation with her rather than rest “what do we know of this place?â€

"Apparently there were some people who used to live on the planet, but they died out when the planet's orbit was altered. That's also when the planet iced over. I hope to find some remnants of the former inhabitants while we're here," she told him. She smiled at him gently, wishing she could ease his tiredness. It was not a good way to start out a training mission.

"Sounds like fun," Harmos remarked. The Marine CO of the Endeavor looked over at Damon. "Lieutenant Colonel Harmos Aurelius, Lieutenant. Pleasure to meet you. How long have you commanded your detachment?" He smiled affably and extended a hand.

“First Lieutenant Damon Raine, Sir.†Damon returned the smile and reached out to enthusiastically shake the man's hand. “Haven’t had them for long, I was transferred in to take command a few weeks ago.†He sat back again feeling slightly foolish that he hadn’t introduced himself to the Colonel first.

"Hello, Colonel," Sam said. "I'm Samantha York. Chief Science Officer on the Orion. It's a pleasure to meet you."

The Marine nodded and smiled at her. "The pleasure is all mine, young lady." He then turned his attention back to Lieutenant Raine.

"Since these are your troops, Lieutenant, I will rely quite heavily upon your input and advice. I suggest that you and I cooperate in the command of this detail, and if possible, arrive at a consensus concerning orders given. I reserve the right however, should the need arise, to take full command if things go pear-shaped. Chain of command still needs to be maintained. Fair enough?" He found that relying on the best source of information, regardless of rank, always pays dividends in a combat situation.

Damon nodded. "I appreciate the leeway Sir. You won't hear any complaints from me or my Marines."
