The casket containing the remains of Commander Jackson Tolren was placed before the main alter by Eight Starfleet pilots in dress uniform. Admiral Vial was in the front row sitting alone. It would be a few minutes before the crew arrived to send the Commander off.
Anna stepped in nervously in her dress whites. This uniform always made her uncomfortable but she would where them for this occasion. She moved forward and quietly took a seat. She barely knew the Commander as he had been away from the station a good portion of her service here but from what she did know he was a good man and deserved better than to come to this kind of an end.
As an Ambassador, Miral had an obligation to show up at formal occasions. Especially funerals of commanding officers. She'd never meet Commander Tolren, but from what she'd read he was a good man. She took a seat near the back.
Raven followed shortly after. She had only met the Commander a few times. Still, it was always a sad occasion when someone died. Especially when it was an act of terrorism. She took a seat on the aisle and waited for others to arrive.
Basil arrived quietly, in full Dress Uniform, and sat next to Raven.
Anna looked back toward the other two and nodded. As acting Commanding officer she didn't have the luxury of sitting at the back of the room though right now she wished she could. What she wanted was for Captain Fannin to be out of sickbay so she could go back to a bit more of a normal life.
Admiral Kathryn Burke, wearing her dress uniform, walked into the room and took a seat in the front row. As a representative of Theta Fleet, it was important for her to be there, even though she'd never met Commander Tolren.
Commander Jackson walked through the doors of the chapel. He adjusted his dress unifrom as we walked remorsefully down the aisle. He and Commander Tolren came on board within days of each other, and they quickly hit it off. Lucas took his seat and looked towards the casket, fondly remembering their first meeting.
Krang rushed to the chapel and barely had arrived when the service started. He hadn't even had time to change into his dress uniform. He stood near the door at the back of the room. He wanted to pay his respects, but he was still deeply involved in the hunt for the men who did this.
The Admiral nodded for the ceremony to begin, he left the details to the stations Chaplain as he had heard commander Tolren was a christian, Vail had little knowledge about it.. The chaplain took the stage behind the casket.
"Thank you all for coming today to send off one of our own, Commander Jack Tolren, I shall begin by reading a Psalm of David..
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
Thou anointest my head with oil;
my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever."
Vail had heard those words before, many Christians had passed over the years, he wasn't actually sure how many there was left really... He saw the Chaplain step down, it was his turn. Naval traditions were very strict on burials at Sea, or space for that matter...he was prepared.
"I spent several hours in Jacks quarters doing everything I could to get an idea of who he was. I fear I shall never do that true justice. I did find a note in his Bible that was written in his own hand, I will read it for you now..
I give you this one thought to keep,
I am with you still, I do not sleep,
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond in the snow,
Do not think of me as gone,
I am with you all at each new dawn.
Admiral Vail stepped to the casket and nodded to the honor guard, A tall starfleet pilot snapped to attention as the casket was lifted and slid into the hull chamber. The casket could still be seen through the glass windows. The inner hatch was sealed and the Adjutant of the honor guard rang the large ships bell three times slowly...
The honor guard saluted, Admiral Vail turned to the group of officers.. he looked directly at Commander Johnson...
"CAPTAIN JOHNSON, STEP FORWARD, SIGN AND DATE THE SHIPS LOG."
Anna stepped forward silently and took the PADD to sign and date the log. With a nod she handed it back to the Admiral and saluted him.
Vail Returned the Salute, As the bell range Three more times and the casket slipped slowly into space...
"BE IT KNOWN ON THIS DATE, AT THIS COORDINATE, COMMANDER TOLREN'S REMAINS HAVE BEEN RETURNED TO THE VASTNESS OF SPACE. THIS CEREMONY IS CONCLUDED"
Krang quickly slipped out of the chapel ahead of the mass of the crowd. He had to be several places in the next few minutes.
Admiral Vail nodded at Commander Johnson with approval. "Well done Anna, well done."
"Thank you sir." Anna said returning the nod as she waited for the rest of the crowd to leave.
"Well lady, I think I'll go and Check on Edward and see if he has come to yet."
"I want to know when he wakes up too." Anna said.
"Sounds good, I'll check in with him, Doc's still waiting to see his condition, Commander Krang is also with him. If he's up I know he'll want to see you."
Anna nodded, "I just hope I have more answers for him soon." She said.
